When does a USPS letter carrier scan packages “delivered”?
I have a package being sent via USPS Parcel Post with delivery confirmation, and USPS website indicates that it was “delivered” yesterday even though it wasn’t (and it was not here today, either). I thought a letter carrier has a handheld scanner and scans each barcode as it is dropped off, but is it true that sometimes they scan all barcodes before loading the vans — and because PP only moves when there is an available space it could languish at the post office even as it is reported delivered? Is this a standard USPS practice? And why was the delivery confirmation says it was “delivered” by ZIP Code/post office (97210) that does not cover my address (97209)? I know 97208 and 97209 are from the same postal station, but 97210 has its own facility.
You are right they shouldn’t mark it delivered until it is. If it needed signed for you should be able to see who accepted it. They could have left it with a neighbor or coworker or something. Check your other porch it may have been left outside.
